Topic Learning

Our Autumn Term topic is Roman Britain.

Our Spring Term topic is Wonderland.

Our Summer Term topic is Tomb Raiders.

For more information about what we cover in our topic please see the ‘Topic Booklets’ section of the Academy website.

Home Learning

Your child will have a reading record to fill in each time they read at school independently, with an adult or at home. We encourage children to read everything from poetry, magazines, ‘First News’ newspapers, game instructions etc. It is best to read often so we encourage daily reading.
The National Curriculum states, ‘By the end of year 4, pupils should have memorised their multiplication tables up to and including the 12 multiplication table and show precision and fluency in their work.’ Therefore at Ardley Hill we expect children to be frequently practising all their multiplication tables and associated divisions to reinforce the work we do in school. Year 4 will participate in the MTC (Multiplicaiton Tables Check) in June 2020.
Homework is set every half term in the form of a ‘Homework Bingo’ grid tailored to the needs of children in Lower Key Stage Two. Please complete as many of the challenges during term time and ensure you return your book so we can share your hard work with the class and award lots of housepoints and Dojo points!

Kenya Class will have PE every Monday afternoon. The children can come to school in their PE kit on Monday. They will need to wear a full tracksuit in-case of cold weather. They can wear their shorts and t-shirt underneath. Earrings should be removed before arriving at school or alternatively your child can remove them before the lesson. Please ensure that all clothing is clearly named to ensure they are not lost.

The children will be swimming every Monday afternoon during the first half of Autumn term. Your child will need: a swimming costume (no bikinis), towel, hat (if hair is long, girls and boys), flip flops (or other shoes) to walk to the pool and a plastic bag to store wet clothing. They can come to school on these days in their normal P.E kit.

Your child will need a healthy snack to have during morning break – any pots must have names on if you wish them to be kept.

Additional Information

We will be doing lots of creative and messy learning this year and it would be helpful if your child could bring in a named old t-shirt or shirt that could be worn over their uniform during messy art lessons.

Your child will also need a named water bottle which will be kept in the classroom for them to refill and use daily.

Your child may require a healthy snack for morning break time.

We look forward to starting the year with you!
