Our Learning – Maths Information

We view mathematics as a creative and highly interconnected subject essential to everyday life, science, technology and engineering, and necessary for most forms of employment.

At Ardley Hill Academy, our aims are to ensure all our pupils:

  • become fluent in the fundamentals of mathematics;
  • have the ability to recall and apply knowledge rapidly and accurately to a range of mathematical problems and situations;
  • reason mathematically using appropriate mathematical language;
  • solve problems by applying their mathematics to a variety of routine and non-routine problems with increasing sophistication.

Maths of the day

Starting in September 2018 we officially started using Maths of the day. Maths of the day is an active Maths program where PE and Maths are combined. Maths of the day brings together the learning in Maths and physical activity, promoting emotion and physical health. Once a week, every child will be taught Maths using a Maths of the day lesson.

Times tables Rock stars

We have launched Times Tables Rockstars in KS2 to support their understanding, fluency and recall of times tables. From the 2019/20 school year, the Year 4s will be completing a times table check and we feel that this application will support all children at Ardley Hill Academy in their times tables understanding which is essential as children move through the school. All the children have received a username and password and can log in either on using the website or the free Times Tables Rockstars app. Each child will complete three sessions a week of times tables questions, consisting of 60 questions with three minutes to answer the questions. Using this, we can calculate how fast each child can complete their times tables.
